Hi. I’m Louise, a small batch, artisan coffee roaster based in the idyllic and remote community of Doune here on Knoydart. Our coffee is roasted to order on our hand built coffee roaster here at our home. We are totally off-grid, so our roaster is powered by our own hydro and solar systems and all our packaging is compostable and biodegradable.

Our coffee is served in the Knoydart Pottery and Tearoom and in the Old Forge here on Knoydart. You can also buy our coffee from the Knoydart pottery and tearoom, Knoydart Foundation Community Shop , The Harbour shop in Mallaig and The Land Sea and Island Centre in Arisaig. And of course, you can buy online through our website.

If you are staying on Knoydart and would like some coffee delivered to your accommodation for when you arrive, please get in touch or if you would just like to know more about Coffee Knoydart, please visit our website or facebook page.

Evenings. Dinner is a single, set menu, served at 7.30pm, open to non-residents Thursday to Saturday. We care deeply about the provenance of our ingredients; they’re typically grown here at Doune or sourced locally. Favourites include our seafood platter, Doune Bay crab linguine and roast Camusrory venison. We enjoy catering for vegan and vegetarian diners and manage any food allergies or intolerances; please let us know in advance. Booking essential: 01687 462 667

Daytimes. New for 2023, we’re open Thursday to Saturday, 11am till 3pm, for home-made light lunches and cakes, perfect while exploring from Inverie. Visit this hidden corner of Knoydart, learn the history, wonder at the wildlife and soak up the views of Skye and the Cuillin Ridge from our outdoor terrace.

Getting here. Five miles along the road from Inverie you’ll find the ‘Doune Here’ sign (Cyclists: leave your bike here). Our footpath path is easy to navigate, but steep in parts, so good boots are advisable. It’s also possible to walk along the coast and cliff tops from Inverie or Sandaig.

Owned and installed by Samantha and Matthew Humphrey, Knoydart Brewery is in the former Roman Catholic chapel of St Agatha’s (1884). The brewery comprises a 5BBL brewing kit and HERMS pilot kit. We buy our “green” power from Knoydart’s hydro electric company, Knoydart Renewables Ltd, a trading subsidiary of the Knoydart Foundation. Our main ingredient, brewing liquor (water), is sourced from clear, soft, natural mountain water. It runs down from Glen Guiserein and Follach, converging into the Millburn and spilling into Loch Nevis. Our base malt is Maris Otter from Muntons in Stowmarket. Other malts we use are from a variety of suppliers. We mainly use leaf hops, occasionally pellets, supplied by CharlesFaram and Brook House Hops. Spent grain (“draff”) and hops are composted by our friend Johann. Sometimes, during winter, highland cattle owned by Kilchoan Estate are treated to the draff.

Our real ale is available in The Old Forge. We are happy to show you the set up while you are in Knoydart. It’s always useful to get in touch ahead of your visit so we can arrange a suitable time.
