Mallaig & District Swimming Pool Faces Closure

9 Nov 2014

We learned recently of the horrible news that the Mallaig & District Swimming Pool is facing closure - due to grant funding cuts of £85,000 in the Highland Council's attempt to slash £64million in spending. The pool has provided our community with this vital facility for 21 years, and not only offers leisure swimming facilities, a gym, healthy lifestyle services, and acts as a tourist attraction - it is also the place where Knoydart kids (and all those in the area) learn to swim. Being able to swim is a life saving skill all of us should hold, especially those growing up on the West Coast. If the Mallaig pool were to close, the nearest place to learn to swim would be Fort William - a half hour ferry ride and an hours drive away - which may not be possible for as many of the communities.

There is a petition that we ask you to sign - please sign and help us keep our pool. Click here for petition.
