Knoydart Renewables Dam Improvement Project - Update #1
28 Jul 2015
A quick update on progress made so far on the Knoydart Renewables Hydro Dam project. This info has been taken from the Renewables Facebook page so you can visit there for more details and photography. The last week has seen lots of action taking place:
~ The far end of long beach has now been cordoned off and over the course of the project will be used for storing materials and is where the helicopter will be loading up to take these materials to the dam.
~ With the first helicopter lift taking place last Thursday, the days before saw a lot of activity on the beach getting the first load of materials ready to be hoisted up to the dam. This included the accommodation unit panels which once completed are moved to the dam and assembled on site by a group of locals.
~ Since Thursday the scour pipe was opened at the dam on Loch Brhoamasaig to allow water to begin draining from the Loch. This went well with the water level dropping over the next few days and as of today, Tuesday 28th July the hydro has been switched off and we are now operating on generator in Inverie. The generator provides power between 7am - 11pm daily and is switched off over night so remember to charge your torches!
We hope to have more photographs soon of the progress up at the dam and will post here once received.
