Calanna Boat Charters

  • Email
  • Telephone
Calanna is Knoydart's local charter boat based in Inverie. Fully licensed and insured for 12 passengers. She is a Lochin 33, (the same hull as used by the RNLI for their Brede class Lifeboat). Comfortable and sea kindly, fast or slow with a large, safe deck.

Calanna is named after Calum and Anna, her skipper Iain Wilson's two children. Iain, who lives on Knoydart and farms at Inverguserain, has been sailing round Knoydart and the Small Isles for over 30 years dropping off hill walkers, whale and shark watching, picnicking, fishing, photographing wildlife, or just enjoying the craic on a wee sail up the loch. We can tailor a trip for your needs.

Community Market Garden

The Knoydart Community Market Garden has been brought back to life over recent years through the hard work of local gardeners, and is well worth a visit. Vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers - you name it, it's probably in there. The site provides two large poly-tunnels for year-round produce and has been divided in to plots for individual and communal use. Feel free to have a wander round and see what's growing.

The Community Market Garden is located to the east of Inverie Bay. Follow signs for the Knoydart Foundation Bunkhouse - the garden is set behind the stone wall on the right hand side of the road, just before the bunkhouse.

Explore the wilderness of Knoydart with the reassurance and expertise of local outdoor guide, Lee Anderson.

While living in Mallaig I have built up an extensive knowledge of Knoydart, and have explored to find you the most enjoyable walking, running and cycling routes. Whether you want to just dip your toe into the wilderness or have ambitions to climb the highest peaks, I will help you maximise your holiday fun by tailoring your adventure to suit you.

I am a very environmentally conscious adventurer. My personal adventures include cycling to the Alps to climb the Matterhorn. If you choose to travel from home to Knoydart using public transport or active travel, I offer a generous cash back incentive to support you to do so, as I know sustainable choices are not always economical. Visit my website for full details.

    Private Mountain Leader/Guide

Confidently navigate the Rough Bounds of Knoydart with an independent Mountain Leader based on the Scottish West Coast.

Knoydart’s mountains are a firm favourite hiking destination. I familiarised myself with the ground after working 5 months in Inverie, solo bog-stomping and stitching together various routes through the hills. We can create a bespoke mountain experience, be it a day of Munro-bagging, or a multi-day camping route. Plans will be tailored to your abilities, the weather and the midge forecast. Individuals/pairs/groups welcome.  For further information please get in touch at least a week in advance of your intended outing. I am fully insured to work throughout the UK and outdoor first aid trained.

    Red Moon Cruises

Red Moon Cruises offers a bespoke and exclusive cruise experience in the waters around Skye, Wester Ross, Lochalsh, Lochaber and the Small Isles. We can carry two to four guests for any number of nights and we also offer some Scottish Short Cruises. Our cruises are tailor-made to suit our guests preferences and to make the best of the area within the constraints of time and tide. Please take look at our Red Moon video here.

As well as a friendly, comfortable, delicious and luxurious onboard experience we want our guests to enjoy all the area has to offer in terms of scenery, wildlife and places to explore ashore. We particularly like to reach those hidden spots you can really only get to by boat… If you are an island - bagger, the nearby Small Islands are a must - history, landscape, wildlife, walking - it’s all there for you to enjoy from your floating home... The deep sea lochs of Hourn and Nevis off the Knoydart peninsula are one of our favourite places to cruise offering sheltered conditions, sublime scenery and a real sense of exploration and escape. We have had some of our best wildlife sightings here!

Award winning short film ‘Chasing the Sublime”, about the challenge of wild swimming, was filmed entirely on location in Loch Hourn and from Red Moon which acted as mother ship for the film crew. You can view the majesty of this loch here. We hope you will join us on an exploration of this fabulous area….
